Sherry calls for collective action against plastic pollution

ISLAMABAD  –  Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman on Sunday called for collective action by the government, educational institutions and the public to fight against plastic pollution.

Speaking to a private news channel, she said universities and colleges to organize awareness seminars on plastic pollution to educate students about its harmful impacts. She said that an anti-plastic law had already been introduced in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). Responding to a question, she said plastic bottles and bags were among the major contributors to plastic pollution, saying that plastics contain numerous potentially harmful chemicals that can pose serious risks to human health and the environment.

Senator Sherry Rehman said innovations were already emerging in the field of plastic waste management. She particularly appreciated the students of the University of Balochistan for making efforts to develop innovative ideas and working on practical solutions to address the issue.
