MPA Saqib Chadhar, wife cleared in Momina Iqbal harassment case

An investigation team of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has cleared PML-N MPA Saqib Chadhar and his wife in a case pertaining to alleged harassment and death threats to actress Momina Iqbal.

The development emerged during proceedings before a sessions court in Lahore, where an NCCIA investigation officer submitted a report concerning the allegations against the lawmaker and his wife.

The investigation officer informed the court that the arrest of Saqib Chadhar and his wife, Sumaira, was not required at this stage.

According to the report, the NCCIA had changed the investigation team and constituted a joint investigation team (JIT) to conduct a fresh probe into the case. The subsequent investigation found the couple innocent of the allegations.

Following the investigating officer’s statement, Chadhar withdrew his interim bail petition. The court subsequently disposed of the bail applications of the MPA and his wife as withdrawn.

Actress Momina Iqbal appeared before the court along with her counsel, Adnan Ehsan, during the hearing.

Her counsel objected to the investigation report and argued that the NCCIA had changed the investigation team without taking the complainant into confidence.

He alleged that the new investigation officer had cleared the suspects without completing the inquiry and urged the court to examine both the investigation process and the decision to declare them innocent.

The NCCIA had registered the case on a complaint lodged by Momina Iqbal against the PML-N lawmaker over allegations of harassment and death threats.
