A judicial commission formed by the Sindh High Court to investigate the disappearance of Mir Raza Ali on Monday recorded the statement of his friend, Muhammad Haitham.
Family members of Mir Raza Ali, along with his friends Haitham and Raziq, appeared before the commission. SHO Ferozabad Adil Afzal, former SHO Kamran Qureshi and the head moharrir also appeared before the panel.
During the proceedings, the commission questioned Haitham about his association with Mir Raza, his last meeting with him and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
Haitham told the commission that he had known Mir Raza since 2014 and worked in IT sales at a software house. He said he last met Mir Raza on July 27 in the presence of their mutual friend Ali Abbas.
According to Haitham, his last conversation with Mir Raza took place through a video call at around 1am on July 28.
He said Mir Raza was sitting in a car with their friend Raziq during the call and appeared to be in a good mood.
The commission asked Haitham when he learned that Mir Raza was missing. He said Mir Raza’s fiancée contacted him at around 4am on July 28 and asked about his whereabouts.
Haitham said he told her that he had spoken to Raziq and advised her not to worry.
He further told the commission that he did not know who had suggested searching Mir Raza’s room.
The panel also questioned Haitham about Mir Raza’s last known phone location and whether the information had been shared with his family.
Haitham said the location of Mir Raza’s last call had been traced to the Asia Pacific Trade Centre. Justice Umar Sial asked him how he obtained the information.
In response, Haitham said he received the information through his friend Hamza.The commission also sought further details about Mir Raza’s final communication and the subsequent efforts made to trace his whereabouts.
