Pakistan has made its first ambassadorial-level appointment to Armenia since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2025, with Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan presenting his credentials to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in Yerevan.
Ambassador Khan, who concurrently serves as Pakistan’s envoy to the United Arab Emirates, presented his Letters of Credence at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace, formally assuming his role as Pakistan’s non-resident ambassador to Armenia.
President Khachaturyan welcomed the ambassador and congratulated him on his appointment, expressing readiness to support efforts aimed at further developing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.Ambassador Khan conveyed greetings from Pakistan’s president and prime minister and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening ties with Yerevan.
During the meeting, the two sides noted the potential for expanding bilateral engagement in trade and investment, education, culture, people-to-people contacts and other areas of economic cooperation.
Earlier, Ambassador Khan called on Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, with the two sides reviewing the bilateral agenda and discussing prospects for enhanced cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments.
The Pakistani envoy also met Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan and handed over a copy of his Letters of Credence.
Mr Safaryan described the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an important policy decision by their leadership. The two sides discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation at bilateral and multilateral forums.
Pakistan and Armenia formally established diplomatic relations in 2025. Ambassador Khan’s accreditation marks the first ambassadorial-level appointment by Pakistan to Armenia since the establishment of formal ties.
