Show-cause notices for 41 Lahore schools over poor Grade 9 results

LAHORE: The Education Department has decided to take action against 41 government schools in Lahore where the Grade 9 pass rate remained below 20 percent in the annual examinations.

According to sources, show-cause notices will be issued to the heads and relevant teachers of the underperforming schools, seeking explanations for the poor academic results.

The performance of school heads, teachers and relevant officials will also be reviewed before further action is decided.

Government High School Wasanpura recorded zero passes in the Grade 9 examination, while fewer than 10 students passed in 27 other government schools across Lahore.

According to Education Department statistics, nearly 2,200 government schools across Punjab recorded Grade 9 pass rates below 20 percent.

Officials said the department would determine the reasons behind the poor results and examine the performance of those responsible.

The move is aimed at improving the quality of education, raising students’ academic performance and fixing responsibility for poor results.
