PTI backs JI protest, seeks support for September 27 march

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Monday announced support for Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) protests against inflation and the petroleum levy, while inviting the party to back PTI’s September 27 long march in Islamabad.

Welcoming JI Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman’s press conference, Gohar said PTI supported initiatives aimed at providing relief to the public.

“We extend our support to Hafiz Naeem’s sit-in,” he said, referring to the JI protest demanding the abolition of the petroleum levy and relief for the masses.

Gohar invited Hafiz Naeem and JI to join PTI’s ‘Insaf March’, saying a formal invitation for the September 27 long march would be extended soon.

He also welcomed Hafiz Naeem’s call for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and thanked the JI chief for his stance on political prisoners.

The PTI chairman said his party would support JI’s long march against inflation and the petroleum levy, while inviting all political parties to join PTI’s September 27 march.

Gohar urged political parties to set aside differences and personal egos in the interest of public welfare, saying the country needed a system that provided genuine relief and justice to the people.

Earlier, Hafiz Naeem had demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners, including Imran Khan, and called for all political parties, including PTI, to be allowed to carry out their political activities freely.
