Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in New York on Sunday to attend the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He was received at John F. Kennedy International Airport by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Consul General in New York Aamer Ahmed Atozai and senior officials of Pakistan’s UN mission and consulate.
According to the Foreign Office, FM Ishaq Dar will have a busy schedule of diplomatic engagements during the high-level week, including ministerial meetings, bilateral talks and discussions on regional and international issues.
He is scheduled to attend a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, where he will reiterate Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
The foreign minister will also participate in several OIC ministerial meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA, including the annual coordination meeting of OIC foreign ministers and other contact group meetings.
The foreign minister is also scheduled to attend high-level meetings on Palestine, including a meeting of the Group of Eight Arab and Islamic countries and the ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
He will deliver Pakistan’s statement at a UN Security Council high-level briefing on artificial intelligence and attend a high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. He is also due to chair a meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Council of Ministers.
Dar will hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from several countries and accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his high-level meetings and other engagements.
The Foreign Office said the deputy prime minister would use the meetings to highlight Pakistan’s position on regional and international peace and stability and exchange views on key global challenges.
