PTI approves Oct 4 long march, plans response to possible action

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s political committee has approved a long march beginning on Oct 4, according to party sources.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, where participants discussed the proposed march, possible federal action against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and other political matters.

Party sources said KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi would lead the march from the province’s southern districts. Senior PTI leaders had also given him the go-ahead to launch it, they added.

According to the reports, the march had evolved into an anti-government movement and would enter Islamabad after several weeks of political activities. Its final destination would be decided later.

The leadership decided to respond to any federal action against the provincial government by mobilising the public. In the event of an emergency or the imposition of governor’s rule, the party planned to stage a sit-in outside Governor House, the sources said.

The committee also approved the formation of a legal team to challenge any federal measures targeting the provincial government.
