PTI says long march will proceed as talks remain deadlocked

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said the party wants negotiations with the government to succeed, but the two sides have yet to decide when the next round of talks will be held.

Speaking to the media after the latest round of talks ended in a deadlock, Gohar said the PTI long march would proceed according to schedule, calling it the party’s constitutional right.

He urged the government not to take any measures in the name of the long march that could create hatred, division or tension among the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or undermine the province’s mandate, autonomy and powers.

Gohar said there was no room for any action against provincial rights or the public mandate, adding that such measures would also be contrary to the spirit of the 18th Amendment.

The PTI chairman also opposed imposing an emergency or governor’s rule in response to the long march. He said no decision had yet been made regarding the date of the next meeting between the government and PTI delegations.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister Talal Chaudhry claimed that the two sides had reached consensus on several matters during negotiations, but the draft agreement was repeatedly changed on the instructions of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leadership.

He alleged that the provincial government was unwilling to implement the National Action Plan, which he said had prevented the negotiations from making further progress.
