Sindh govt suspends MLO over Mir Raza Ali death probe

The Sindh government on Saturday ordered the suspension of Dr Osama Sheikh, the medico-legal officer who conducted the initial post-mortem examination of Mir Raza Ali, following observations in a judicial commission’s report into his death.

The Sindh Home Department has directed the relevant authorities to initiate departmental proceedings against Dr Osama. The commission reportedly criticised his conduct, describing it as immature and childish.

Acting on the commission’s recommendations, the Home Department has also ordered an inquiry against Special Secretary of Health Shehryar Gul Memon.

The department has written to the chief secretary to ensure the implementation of the recommendations contained in the judicial commission’s report.

Earlier, Dr Osama maintained that he stood by his initial post-mortem report and did not endorse the final report dated August 11, 2026.

Appearing before the inquiry commission for the second time, he told the media that he had worked under the guidance and supervision of Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya.

He said he had withdrawn his endorsement of the final report, describing his decision to sign it as a mistake caused by self-doubt.“When a senior doctor tells everyone in a class, including me, that the bullet had entered from the back, I also began to doubt myself. That was my mistake, and that is why I have returned to the commission today to explain my position,” he said.

Dr Osama further claimed that Dr Summaiya had not informed him before August 5, 2026, that he had made an error or that the matter was being discussed in the media.

He said he had not received a show-cause notice alleging any mistake in post-mortem No. 329.

According to Dr Osama, he finalised the initial post-mortem report and sent it to Dr Summaiya via WhatsApp on July 31, 2026. He reported for duty the following day and submitted a physical copy of the report.Mir Raza’s body was found in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 29. An initial post-mortem examination was conducted, followed by a second examination after his body was exhumed.
