PFA fines 150 food businesses Rs1.825m in Sialkot

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) inspected 1,708 food businesses in Sialkot during October and imposed fines amounting to Rs1.825 million on 150 units for violating food safety regulations.

According to a PFA spokesperson, production at five food outlets was suspended due to unhygienic conditions, while eight food samples were collected for laboratory analysis.

During the inspection campaign, the authority also discarded adulterated spices, substandard vinegar, spoiled meat, Chinese salt and other prohibited ingredients.

The spokesperson said 613 food businesses were issued improvement notices over various violations, including poor cleanliness, the presence of insects in production areas and failure to maintain mandatory records.

PFA Director General Mansoor Ahmed said food adulteration was a serious offence and urged citizens to purchase PFA-approved food products in properly sealed and packaged containers.
