Accidental firing at Balochistan Governor’s residence injures five

Five people were injured on Friday in an accidental firing incident at the private residence of Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaafar Khan Mandokhel in Zhob.

According to police, a security officer stationed outside the residence mistakenly discharged his rifle while attempting to remove a stuck bullet from the chamber. The weapon, set to burst mode, fired multiple rounds, injuring three students from Government Boys Degree College and two police officers.

The students, who had come to meet the governor along with more than 100 classmates, were rushed to Zhob Civil Hospital, where they underwent surgery. Medical staff confirmed their condition is now stable. The two injured officers sustained minor wounds and were discharged after initial treatment.

SP Shaukat Mehmood confirmed the firing was unintentional, caused by a technical error. An officer present at the scene said both he and the DSP narrowly avoided injury as the gun was pointed towards the ground, limiting the damage.Governor Mandokhel expressed deep regret over the incident, personally visited the injured at the hospital, and pledged to cover all medical expenses. He assured the students of full academic and financial support, calling the event “deeply unfortunate.”

The governor also directed a review of existing security protocols, ordered enhanced training for security personnel, and instructed that all weapons be thoroughly checked to prevent such accidents in the future.
