President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan is emerging as a responsible member of the global maritime community, with the sector playing a pivotal role in the country’s trade and economic stability.
In his message on the occasion of World Maritime Day 2025, the President emphasized that Pakistan’s maritime future is bright and sustainable, underpinned by port development, digitization, and modernization. He noted that upgradation work at Karachi Port and Port Qasim is underway, with the government determined to transform them into regional trade hubs.
Zardari stated that reforms in maritime policies are progressing, with efforts to make the national shipping industry globally competitive. He highlighted that offering incentives to Pakistani shipping companies would reduce foreign dependency, strengthen freight security, and save valuable foreign exchange.
The President added that the phased implementation of the Port Community System under Pakistan Single Window is ongoing, which will digitize port operations, connect the entire supply chain, and ensure reforms in line with international standards. He said these measures are essential for national interest, regional integration, and sustainable development.
Underscoring the importance of investment, Zardari said modernization of ports will not only expand trade volume but also create employment opportunities. He pledged to bring all stakeholders of the maritime sector on board, affirming that maritime development is central to national progress.
“With better policies and dedicated efforts, Pakistan can build a strong and sustainable maritime future,” the President concluded, adding that the country is ready to serve as a key gateway in the global trade supply chain.
