PESHAWAR – Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday emphasized the need for strict penalties against corruption, saying that eliminating corrupt practices is essential for building an honest and progressive society.
He said corruption is not only a financial crime but also a moral failure, a poison for society, and an enemy of merit. The Governor expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held at Governor House in connection with International Anti-Corruption Day. The event was organized by NAB Peshawar, where he attended as chief guest.
The ceremony was attended by NAB Director General Farmanullah, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Mehsud, President Women Chamber of Commerce Quratulain, Faryal Ali Gohar, Professor Adnan, administrative heads of provincial departments, vice chancellors, faculty members, and a large number of youth.
During the event, the DG NAB briefed participants on the institution’s efforts to curb corruption and actions taken against corrupt elements. The ceremony concluded with an awareness walk against corruption.
In his address, Governor Faisal Kundi said the youth are the future of the country and must use their strength against corruption, bribery, and dishonest practices. He stressed that three pillars must be strengthened for a corruption-free Pakistan, integrity in education, transparency in governance, and honesty in society. He added that society must collectively build an environment where honesty becomes the norm and shortcuts become a source of embarrassment.
“This issue is directly linked to our individual and collective mindset, thinking, and character,” he said, urging every segment of society to reform its conduct. Expressing hope, the Governor said that with collective determination, Pakistan will soon succeed in becoming a corruption-free nation.
