The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made it mandatory for all mobile SIM cards to be registered in the name of their actual users, declaring the use of SIMs registered under someone else’s identity illegal.
In an official statement, the PTA urged consumers to ensure that all their SIMs and telecom connections are registered under their own name, warning that using a SIM registered to another person violates telecom regulations and may lead to legal action.
The authority said the registered user will be held fully responsible for any misuse of a SIM card, including calls, messages and data usage made through the registered number. It stressed that users are accountable for ensuring the lawful use of their telecom connections.
The PTA further stated that compliance with telecom rules governing communication and data usage is mandatory, and any violation may result in penalties, SIM suspension or further legal proceedings.
The move is part of the PTA’s broader efforts to curb illegal SIM usage, strengthen national security and prevent cybercrime and financial fraud. Consumers have been advised to verify their SIM registration status and immediately regularize any unregistered or improperly registered connections.
