D-Pharm student critically injured in suicide attempt at private university

A 21-year-old student of a private university sustained critical injuries after allegedly attempting suicide by jumping from the second floor of a campus building, police said on Monday.

The student, identified as Fatima, is enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy (D-Pharm) programme. She was initially taken to the university hospital and later shifted to a general hospital due to the severity of her injuries, including serious trauma to her spine and lungs. Doctors say she remains under critical care, and her condition has so far prevented authorities from recording her statement.

Police officials confirmed that no formal complaint has been filed by the family at this stage.

The incident has raised serious concern as it occurred only days after another D-Pharm student at the same university reportedly jumped from the fourth floor of a building, resulting in his death.

According to preliminary investigation details, Fatima arrived at the university at 7:58am on the day of the incident but did not attend her scheduled class. Investigators found that she remained on a phone call for approximately 27 minutes before the incident and deleted her last call record at around 8:30am.

Police further revealed that Fatima’s brothers had replaced her mobile phone a day before the incident. Statements of both brothers are currently being recorded as part of the investigation.Authorities also noted that Fatima had recently scored 18 out of 35 in a test and had expressed dissatisfaction over her academic performance to her father and brothers.

CCTV footage from the university campus and surrounding areas is being reviewed to establish the sequence of events leading up to the incident.

While initial findings suggest the possibility of personal or domestic issues, police said the exact cause will be determined after the completion of the investigation.
