The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has taken disciplinary action against 19 of its officers and officials on charges of corruption, abuse of authority and negligence as part of an ongoing internal accountability drive.
According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Internal Accountability, six officials have been dismissed from service following the completion of departmental inquiries.
Those removed from service include Inspector Maria Niaz, who was dismissed for illegally occupying a government residence and remaining absent from duty. Sub-Inspector Kashif Riaz Awan was dismissed for providing protection to a gang involved in illegal organ trafficking.
Sub-Inspectors Tasaddaq Hussain and Ahmad Waqar were removed for conducting illegal raids and carrying out faulty investigations, while Constable Asifullah Dutta was dismissed on charges of illegal raids and extortion. Technical Assistant Inayatullah was also dismissed for negligence and involvement in illegal immigration clearance.
In addition, Inspector Muhammad Arsalan Masood Khan and Inspector Idrees Khan were demoted in pay scale for demanding bribes during investigations. The promotion of Sub-Inspector Sohail Ahmad was withheld for one year over negligence in official duties.
The department also imposed the penalty of withholding two annual increments on Sub-Inspectors Shazma Shabbir, Shabana Shamsheer, Umar Farooq and Assistant Sub-Inspector Farhan Israr for their involvement in illegal immigration clearance.
Similarly, Constables Muhammad Shakir, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Zahid Iqbal, Mudassir Saeed and Adeel Ahmad were awarded the penalty of withholding one annual increment for their role in illegal immigration clearance. Technical Assistant Ghulam Khan was issued a warning for failing to comply with official orders.
An FIA spokesperson said the purpose of the accountability process was to ensure transparency, integrity and professionalism within the organisation. He said strict action was being taken against officials involved in illegal activities, while those found negligent were being punished in accordance with the law.
