ATC hands 10-year sentences to Shibli Faraz, Murad Saeed among 47 in May 9 case

An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi on Saturday sentenced 47 proclaimed offenders, including several leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to 10 years in prison in connection with the May 9 attack on the General Headquarters.

The verdict was announced by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah, who also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 on each of the convicts and ordered the confiscation of their properties.

Among those sentenced were senior PTI leaders, including Omar Ayub Khan, Zartaj Gul, Murad Saeed, Shibli Faraz, Hammad Azhar, Kanwal Shauzab and Rashid Shafiq.

Other individuals convicted in the case include Shahbaz Gill, Zulfi Bukhari, Muhammad Ahmad Chatha, Rai Hassan Nawaz and Rai Muhammad Murtaza.

The court also awarded prison sentences and fines to several other convicts, including Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Usman Saeed Basra and Ijaz Khan Jazi.

The case relates to the unrest that followed the events of May 9 riots in Pakistan, during which military installations, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, were attacked.
