Pakistan offers to host US-Iran talks: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said Pakistan was ready to host meaningful negotiations to help resolve the ongoing crisis, provided both the United States and Iran agree to the proposal.

“It would be a matter of pride for Pakistan to host such talks if the parties give their consent,” the prime minister said, underscoring that dialogue remained essential for ensuring peace and stability both regionally and globally.

He welcomed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at defusing tensions in the Middle East and reiterated that Pakistan would consider it an honour to facilitate constructive engagement leading to a comprehensive resolution.

The remarks came after a recent telephone conversation between Mr Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which both leaders agreed to continue Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that senior US officials — including Vice President J. D. Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — could represent Washington in potential talks expected to be held in Islamabad next week.

A spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed that the country stands ready to facilitate mediation efforts, contingent on the consent of both sides.
