The federal government has decided to introduce key reforms to improve the passport issuance system and enhance public convenience.
The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry.
During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that the delivery time for ordinary passports had been reduced from 21 days to 14 days in a bid to expedite services for citizens.
Naqvi directed authorities to implement a fully cashless payment system in passport offices within 15 days, stating that the move would help eliminate the role of agents and improve transparency in the issuance process.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the proposed business passport issuance system and discussed measures to enhance the effectiveness of home delivery services.
Additionally, the interior minister stressed the need to establish a dedicated passport authority to ensure timely and efficient implementation of reforms, directing officials to accelerate work in this regard.
The meeting was attended by the federal interior secretary, the director general of passports and immigration, and other senior officials.
