KP minister pledges expanded rehabilitation services

Peshawar  –  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health, Khaleeq ur Rehman, on Friday reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening rehabilitation services and promoting inclusive healthcare during a visit to the Habib Physiotherapy Complex in Hayatabad.

The minister was received by senior officials and the facility’s administration upon arrival. As part of the visit, he distributed 20 wheelchairs among persons with disabilities, underscoring the government’s resolve to support vulnerable groups and enhance their integration into society.

During the visit, Mr Rehman was given a detailed briefing by the Director of MMI and the management of the complex on the range of services offered.

These include physiotherapy, speech therapy, audiology, psychological counselling, and the provision of assistive devices. The facility, officials said, serves as a key rehabilitation centre for patients across the province.

The minister toured various sections of the complex, interacting with both inpatients and outpatients. He reviewed treatment services for patients suffering from polio, stroke-related paralysis, neurological disorders and other physical disabilities. He also met special needs children undergoing therapy, as well as elderly patients facing mobility and age-related challenges.

Expressing satisfaction with the quality of care, Mr Rehman commended the dedication of doctors, therapists and support staff, acknowledging their critical role in improving the lives of vulnerable segments of society.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the government was placing increased emphasis on rehabilitation alongside curative healthcare to ensure that no segment of society is left behind. He stressed that persons with disabilities are being given special attention to enable them to live with dignity, independence and equal opportunity.
