Court extends Bushra Bibi’s interim bail till June 9

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Sunday directed authorities to include Bushra Bibi in the investigation of 29 cases related to the November 26 incidents in the presence of her husband and legal team.

The hearing was conducted before Amjad Ali Shah, who also extended Bushra Bibi’s interim bail until June 9 and adjourned further proceedings till the same date.

During the hearing, the court ordered investigators to complete the inquiry before the next hearing and directed that the former first lady’s inclusion in the investigation process be carried out in the presence of her husband and counsel.

Government prosecutors and defence lawyers were present in court during the proceedings.

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Bushra Bibi’s counsel Faisal Mahmood Malik confirmed that her interim bail had been extended until June 9. He said the court had directed authorities to conduct the investigation in the presence of her husband and legal team.

The lawyer further stated that the defence team had fully appeared in the case concerning Aleema Khan and maintained that meeting the party’s founding chairman was a constitutional right of lawyers.

He said the defence was challenging penalties imposed over meeting requests, arguing that legal counsel could not properly conduct trials without access to their clients.

Malik also said arguments on the bail applications of arrested party workers had been completed.
