Family disowns alleged BLA commander in Turbat

Family members of Shahnaz Baloch, who has been identified by authorities as a commander of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), on Saturday publicly distanced themselves from her and her alleged activities.

Speaking at a press conference in Turbat, her mother, grandfather and maternal uncle said the family had no connection with Shahnaz Baloch and had not been in contact with her for nearly 12 years.

According to the family, Shahnaz moved to Oman at a young age and remained out of contact with relatives for more than a decade.

Her mother, Rukhsana, said Shahnaz’s father died when she was only nine months old and that the family was unaware of any involvement on her part with extremist activities or any banned organisation.

The relatives said they did not support or endorse any actions or statements attributed to Shahnaz Baloch and stressed that they had no association with her alleged activities.

Describing themselves as law-abiding citizens, they said the family had always respected the country’s laws and state institutions and wished to make clear that they bore no responsibility for her actions.
