Peshawar – Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (SACM) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Technical Education Usman Khan Bettani has said technical education and vocational training are vital to creating sustainable employment and ensuring economic stability for the province’s youth.
He described Qatar Charity’s provision of income-generating projects, livelihood grants and non-food items as a commendable initiative, saying the distribution of rickshaw loaders, electric sewing machines and other business equipment would help empower young people, create dignified employment opportunities and support their economic rehabilitation.He was speaking at a ceremony jointly organised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (KP-TEVTA) and Qatar Charity at a local hotel in Peshawar.
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Qatar Yousuf Mohammed Hussein Saleh Al Braik, Secretary Industries, Commerce and Technical Education Amjad Ali Khan, Qatar Charity Pakistan Programmes Manager Waqas Haleem, Regional Director Jassim Mohammed Al Sumaiti and KP-TEVTA Managing Director Abdul Qadir Shah. Mr Shah also addressed the participants.
Mr Bettani said the provincial government was implementing comprehensive reforms to align technical education with the requirements of industry and ensure that young people acquired skills in demand in the job market.
“The government’s responsibility is not merely to award certificates but to equip students with practical skills so that they can secure dignified employment or establish their own businesses after completing their education,” he said.
He said the government’s vision was to strengthen institutional governance in the technical education sector, enhance collaboration with industry, improve the performance of training institutions and establish stronger links between technical education and economic development.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that training programmes translated into employment, self-reliance and economic empowerment, enabling young people to make a meaningful contribution to national development.
The special assistant appreciated Qatar Charity’s services in Pakistan, saying the organisation had been working for many years in humanitarian assistance, welfare and economic rehabilitation.
He said Qatar Charity was not only creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for deserving people but also contributing to long-term development through business support, quality improvement, beneficiary guidance and continued assistance.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr Bettani and Mr Al Braik distributed rickshaw loaders, electric sewing machines and other business equipment among trained beneficiaries under the Livelihood Grants Programme. Non-food items were also distributed among deserving families.
The participants were informed that Qatar Charity had distributed 122 wheelchairs among deserving people in Peshawar, Mardan and Charsadda districts.
The guests later visited exhibition stalls showcasing various activities under the project and reviewed different components of the initiative.
