KP steps up dengue preparedness under 2026 action plan

PESHAWAR  –  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Min­ister for Health Khale­eq-ur-Rehman on Friday chaired a meeting to review progress on the Dengue Ac­tion Plan 2026, with a par­ticular focus on prevention and control measures, dis­ease surveillance and prepa­rations to contain any possi­ble spread of the disease.

Secretary Health Fayaz Ali Shah, Director General Health Services, Director of the Den­gue Control Programme, Dis­trict Health Officer Pesha­war and other senior officials of the Health Department at­tended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the progress of measures being implemented to prevent and control dengue and examined the proposed course of action for the coming period.

Officials briefed the meet­ing on surveillance mecha­nisms, timely diagnosis and treatment, preventive meas­ures and public awareness in­itiatives. The participants also discussed ways to strengthen coordination among relevant departments and institutions to improve preparedness.

Khaleeq-ur-Rehman said dengue prevention and con­trol remained among the gov­ernment’s key priorities and stressed the need for a com­prehensive and coordinated strategy involving all relevant departments and institutions.

He directed the concerned authorities to intensify pre­ventive measures, identify and eliminate potential mos­quito-breeding sites and en­sure the timely diagnosis and treatment of suspected den­gue patients.

The minister also called for further strengthening of the disease surveillance system to enable the authorities to de­tect and respond promptly to suspected cases.

He directed the Health De­partment and other relevant agencies to expand public awareness campaigns, with a focus on dengue prevention, precautionary measures and the importance of seeking timely medical treatment.

Khaleeq-ur-Rehman direct­ed all concerned authorities to ensure effective implemen­tation of the Dengue Action Plan 2026 and strengthen co­ordination among relevant in­stitutions.
