Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has removed Federal Secretary for Health Aslam Ghori following the tragic fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad that claimed the lives of 15 infants.
The prime minister also constituted a high-level committee to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and determine responsibility for the tragedy.
The decisions were announced during an emergency meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif following the devastating fire at the capital’s major public hospital.
The premier expressed strong displeasure over the incident and reprimanded concerned officials of PIMS and the Ministry of Health for their handling of the situation.
Former Interior Secretary Shahid Khan has been appointed chairman of the inquiry committee, while Secretary Establishment Dr Barrister Nabeel Awan is also among its members.
The committee will investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire, assess the response of the relevant authorities and submit its findings to the prime minister.
