The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has announced the schedule for the presidential election, with polling set to take place on Sept 24.
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal announced the schedule at a press conference, saying candidates could submit their nomination papers on Sept 19 between 10am and noon.
The nomination papers will be filed at the office of the chief election commissioner, who will also serve as the returning officer for the election.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be carried out the same day, immediately after the filing process concludes.
According to the schedule, candidates will be able to withdraw their nomination papers until 11:30am on Sept 23.
Polling will be held at the AJK Legislative Assembly Hall on Sept 24 from 10am to 1pm, while counting will begin immediately after voting concludes.
Justice Mughal has also requested the acting AJK president to convene a session of the Legislative Assembly on Sept 24 for the election of the new president.
