Suspect detained in Surjani Town mother, three children killing

Police have detained a close acquaintance of a family in connection with the killing of a mother and her three children in Karachi’s Surjani Town, investigative sources said.

According to sources, the detained suspect frequently visited the victims’ house. Police are investigating whether the killings were linked to a personal grudge involving the suspect.

The bodies of Mehwish and her three children were found inside their home in Sector 7-D on Monday night. Investigators said the victims sustained head injuries caused by a sharp-edged weapon and a heavy object.

The deceased children were identified as five-year-old Hasnain, six-year-old Kashmirah and an 18-month-old girl. The youngest child was initially shifted to hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries.

Police also questioned Mehwish’s husband as part of the investigation. He told police that he had gone to drop his employer somewhere and, upon returning, found the door locked. He said he repeatedly called out to his wife but received no response.

SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastooi reached the crime scene following the incident.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar took notice of the killings and sought an immediate and detailed report from the SSP West.

He directed police to investigate the case from all angles, collect evidence from the crime scene and determine the motive behind the killings. He further ordered immediate action if evidence of any individual’s involvement was found.

A press conference on the murder case is scheduled for Thursday.
