Lahore tops world’s most polluted cities list as AQI crosses 500

Air pollution in the provincial capital has reached alarming levels, with the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 500, posing serious health risks to residents.

According to the Meteorological Department, Lahore has emerged as the world’s most polluted city, topping the global list of cities with the worst air quality.

Allama Iqbal Town recorded the highest pollution level in the city, with an AQI of 912, followed by Burki Road at 698, Gulberg at 619, DHA Phase 5 at 569 and Model Town at 471.

The deteriorating air quality has raised serious concerns over public health, as residents remain exposed to hazardous levels of pollution.

Health experts have advised citizens to limit unnecessary outdoor activities and wear protective masks when venturing outside.

They have also urged residents to take additional precautions to protect children, the elderly and people suffering from respiratory illnesses, who are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of air pollution.
