Pakistan, Sudan agree to enhance security cooperation, sign cybercrime pact

Pakistan and Sudan have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security, internal affairs, police training, civil registration and institutional coordination, with both countries also deciding to sign a formal agreement on combating cybercrime.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Sudanese Interior Minister Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali in Islamabad.

The meeting was followed by detailed delegation-level talks aimed at expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

During the discussions, Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peace and reconstruction efforts in Sudan and offered assistance in strengthening the country’s institutional capacity.

Highlighting the role of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the interior minister said the authority had facilitated the issuance of 36 million citizenship cards, nine million national identity cards, 18 million birth certificates and 500,000 death certificates in Sudan.

He assured the Sudanese delegation that Pakistan would continue extending technical assistance in civil registration and NADRA-related systems.

Responding to concerns raised by his Sudanese counterpart, Naqvi directed the relevant authorities to resolve visa-related difficulties faced by Sudanese women married to Pakistani nationals and residing in Pakistan.

The interior minister also expressed Pakistan’s willingness to provide professional training to Sudanese police officers and facilitate Sudanese citizens seeking medical treatment in Pakistan.

The Sudanese interior minister expressed keen interest in benefiting from Pakistan’s expertise, particularly in tackling cybercrime, and emphasised the need to expand cooperation across various sectors.

Describing Pakistan as a brotherly country, he appreciated the support extended by the Pakistani government and thanked Naqvi for his continued assistance.

Senior officials from both countries attended the meeting, including the federal interior secretary, NADRA chairman, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general, Anti-Narcotics Force director general, Islamabad inspector general of police and representatives of other relevant institutions.
