Report says Pakistan regains strategic importance globally in 2025

Pakistan has successfully restored its strategic importance on the global stage in 2025 by leveraging its geographic position, defence capabilities and diplomatic outreach, according to a report by Carolina Political Review.

The report said Pakistan’s standing in international politics strengthened significantly following the May conflict with India, which demonstrated the country’s military resilience and enhanced its credibility. It added that effective diplomacy during the crisis helped restore confidence in Washington, giving fresh momentum to Pakistan–US relations.

Highlighting Pakistan’s geographic advantage, the report noted that the country sits at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia, Western Asia and the Middle East, making it a key player in regional geopolitics. Strategic assets such as Gwadar Port in Balochistan have further increased Pakistan’s importance by opening avenues for port development, mineral cooperation and economic opportunities linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The report also referred to the US Trump administration’s National Security Strategy, which identifies Pakistan as an important partner in advancing American global interests. During heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, the United States played an active role in de-escalation efforts, reflecting Pakistan’s growing diplomatic leverage.

On the economic front, Pakistan and the United States signed agreements worth $500 million covering rare earths, mineral refining and processing. In addition, the US EXIM Bank approved $1.25 billion in financing for mineral projects in Balochistan’s Reko Diq region, signalling increased foreign investment and new employment opportunities.

According to Carolina Political Review, Pakistan’s strategic diplomacy and expanding economic engagement with the United States in 2025 have reinforced its position as a key regional and global actor.
