Islamabad Court rejects refiled case against Imran Khan after prior acquittal

An unusual legal situation emerged at the District and Sessions Courts in Islamabad when police submitted a fresh challan in a case involving Imran Khan, despite his earlier acquittal in the same matter.

Judicial Magistrate Shehzad Khan presided over the hearing, while legal representatives Sardar Masroof Khan and Zahid Bashir Dar appeared on behalf of the former premier.

During the proceedings, Sardar Masroof Khan argued that re-submitting a challan against an already acquitted individual was highly irregular and had no precedent in judicial practice. The court was informed that Imran Khan had already been cleared in the same case by a court within the same judicial complex.

The magistrate instructed the defense to produce the earlier acquittal order for verification. After reviewing the submitted documents and examining the record, the court acknowledged the prior decision and declined to proceed further, placing the newly filed challan on record.

The case had originally been registered at Tarnol Police Station in relation to the Azadi March.
