PM announces digital fuel relief for transport sector

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that fuel relief payments for public and freight transport operators are being distributed through digital wallets to cushion the impact of rising petroleum prices.

Chairing a meeting to review the country’s fuel reserves and relief measures, the prime minister said subsidies for bus, wagon, and truck operators are being transferred through a transparent and efficient digital system.

He emphasized that the government is prioritizing support for economically vulnerable groups and ensuring timely delivery of financial assistance. “We will not abandon our people during difficult times,” he said, adding that public relief remains the top priority.

The premier also noted that savings from austerity measures are being redirected to support citizens.

Officials briefed the meeting that adequate fuel reserves are available to meet national demand, while progress on various relief initiatives to counter rising fuel costs was also reviewed.

The move comes amid a sharp surge in petrol and diesel prices, driven by global crude oil increases linked to tensions in the Middle East, which have contributed to rising inflation across the country.
