Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed authorities to accelerate reforms in Pakistan Railways, emphasising the need to transform it into a modern, safe and reliable transport system.
The prime minister was chairing a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi to review the department’s overall performance, ongoing reforms and future development plans.
During the briefing, the railways minister apprised the premier of operational matters and assured him that, in view of public convenience amid prevailing Gulf tensions, there would be no increase in train fares.
PM Sharif reiterated that the government was committed to shielding citizens from additional financial burden in the current economic climate, while stressing the importance of improving service delivery to enhance revenue generation.
He underscored the need for expediting reform measures and directed officials to ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects. The premier also called for the optimal utilisation of available resources to provide safe, affordable and efficient travel facilities to the public.
Reaffirming the government’s focus on public welfare, he stressed that improving institutional efficiency was essential for sustainable national development.
