Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, concluded a three-day official visit to Iran along with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a high-level delegation, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief called on Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and held separate meetings with Speaker of the National Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Commander of Khatam-ul-Anbiya Headquarters, Major General Ali Abdollahi.
The ISPR said discussions focused on the evolving regional security environment, ongoing diplomatic engagements, and collaborative measures to promote sustainable peace and stability. Both sides emphasised the importance of dialogue, de-escalation, and peaceful resolution of disputes through continued diplomatic efforts.
Field Marshal Munir appreciated the hospitality extended by the Iranian leadership and people, while conveying goodwill messages from Pakistan’s leadership. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to further strengthening longstanding bilateral ties with Tehran.
The visit, the ISPR added, reflects Pakistan’s intent to support negotiated solutions to conflicts in the Middle East and to contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
Separately, Iran announced the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, signalling progress in ongoing de-escalation efforts.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, in a message posted on Truth Social, thanked Pakistan and praised its civilian and military leadership, describing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir as “fantastic people” and calling the development a “great and memorable day for the world.”
