The first Hajj flight under the Road to Makkah project departed from Islamabad International Airport on Sunday, marking the start of this year’s Hajj operations from Pakistan.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, along with senior officials, saw off the pilgrims at the airport.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said Pakistan had completed Hajj preparations within the stipulated timeframe with the support of Saudi Arabia, adding that the government is providing the best possible facilities to pilgrims.
He noted that the Road to Makkah initiative allows pilgrims to complete Saudi immigration and related formalities at their departure airport, ensuring a smoother arrival in the Kingdom.
This year, the project has been expanded to Lahore, in addition to Karachi and Islamabad, and is expected to benefit over 95,000 pilgrims.
Officials said pilgrims will also be provided with e-SIM cards to stay connected with their families. Additional arrangements include modern accommodation and high-speed train services between Makkah and Madinah to facilitate travel during Hajj.
The minister expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Mohammed bin Salman, and Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah for their support, and urged pilgrims to represent Pakistan with dignity during their spiritual journey.
