Sharjeel Inam Memon has said construction work on Karachi’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project will continue despite ongoing court proceedings related to the scheme.
Defending the ongoing project, the Sindh information minister said the government had been compelled to take “difficult decisions” to ensure timely progress on the major transport initiative.
He said the pace of construction improved after the project was handed over to the Frontier Works Organisation, adding that the agreement with the previous contractor had been terminated due to unresolved issues.
Sharjeel Memon acknowledged the inconvenience faced by commuters and residents, particularly on University Road, but maintained that the government was actively working to address the situation. He assured that the affected road would be cleared within three months.
Calling the BRT Red Line a long-term investment, the minister said the project would benefit future generations for decades to come.
“To achieve something significant, difficult choices have to be made,” he said.
Referring to the legal challenges surrounding the project, Sharjeel Memon expressed hope that the courts would issue a fair decision. However, he stressed that work on the BRT Red Line would continue regardless of the outcome.
He further stated that the project would not be halted under any circumstances, even if it led to contempt of court proceedings.
