Federal Interior and Narcotics Control Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Sri Lankan Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in counter-narcotics efforts and law enforcement.
According to official sources, the two ministers decided to improve coordination in police training and expand joint efforts to tackle illegal immigration and the misuse of forged passports for international travel.
They also agreed that the heads of their respective immigration authorities would establish immediate contact to enhance cooperation and improve coordination.
During the meeting, both ministers discussed a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in combating organised crime and money laundering.
Mohsin Naqvi and Ananda Wijepala further agreed to set up a joint working group to promote closer cooperation between the interior ministries of Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The two sides also decided to address pending visa-related issues on a priority basis.
