Peshawar – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday reviewed measures to improve the utilisation of the province’s mineral resources and enhance revenue generation, with Provincial Minister for Mines and Mineral Development Arif Ahmad zai directing officials to formulate a comprehensive strategy for strengthening the sector.
The decisions were taken during a meeting chaired by the minister and attended by Secretary Mines and Minerals Dr Muhammad Israr and other senior departmental officials.
The meeting received a detailed briefing on the department’s performance, ongoing initiatives and opportunities to increase provincial revenue through the efficient and transparent exploitation of mineral resources.
Participants also reviewed the role of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Development and Management Company in improving resource governance and maximising returns from the province’s mineral wealth.
Addressing the meeting, Arif Ahmadzai said the province’s mineral resources were among its most valuable assets and their transparent, efficient and sustainable utilisation remained a key priority of the provincial government. He stressed the need to further strengthen the company’s institutional role and develop a clear roadmap for its future operations.
The meeting agreed to convene another session shortly to finalise the company’s operational framework and long-term strategy. Officials were directed to prepare a comprehensive presentation outlining practical proposals for improving resource management, increasing revenue and enhancing institutional performance.
The recommendations formulated at the next meeting will be submitted to the Chief Minister and the provincial government for approval and implementation.
