ISLAMABAD – Pakistan yesterday reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Macky Sall, candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General, in Islamabad.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Macky Sall, accompanied by former President of Guinea-Bissau Gen. Umaro Embaló, called on the deputy prime minister to discuss issues relating to the United Nations and the evolving global landscape. During the meeting, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for the United Nations as the cornerstone of the multilateral international system and emphasized the importance of strengthening the organization’s effectiveness in promoting international peace, security and sustainable development.
The DPM stressed the need to uphold the purposes and principles enshrined in the UN Charter, ensure full respect for international law and international treaties, and faithfully implement United Nations Security Council resolutions.
He particularly underscored the importance of implementing Security Council resolutions on Palestine and the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as essential steps toward achieving lasting global peace and regional stability. Dar also expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the next United Nations Secretary-General, the world body would continue to evolve in response to emerging global challenges while advancing the international development agenda and reinforcing the principles of cooperation, dialogue and collective action.
