TRNC seeks sovereign recognition, equal international status: Turkish Minister

ISLAMABAD  –  The Minister of Labour and Social Security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ouzhan Hasipolu, yesterday called for recognition of the TRNC as a sovereign state, stressing that the Turkish Cypriot people should have equal international status and the right to represent themselves at global forums. Speaking to members of the Pakistani media in Islamabad on the sidelines of the 9th Ministerial Conference on the Role of Women in the Development of OIC Member States, Minister Hasipolu highlighted the TRNC’s position on the Cyprus issue, emphasizing the principles of sovereign equality and political equality. He said the people of the TRNC aspire to achieve recognition as a sovereign entity and seek opportunities to engage directly with the international community. Hasipolu underlined the importance of strengthening ties between the TRNC and Islamic countries, saying the Turkish Cypriot community values greater cooperation with the Muslim world. He also appreciated Pakistan’s constructive approach towards the TRNC issue and acknowledged the contributions of Pakistani citizens residing in Northern Cyprus.

During the interaction, the minister also exchanged views with Pakistani journalists on regional and international developments, including the evolving situation in the Middle East.

He stressed the need for continued dialogue, regional stability and enhanced cooperation among OIC member states to collectively address common challenges.

The meeting provided a platform for a wide-ranging discussion between the TRNC minister and Pakistani media representatives on matters of mutual interest and regional significance.
