Pakistan and Canada on Monday renewed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met his Canadian counterpart, Anita Anand, to discuss ways to expand cooperation in a range of key sectors.
During the meeting, the two foreign ministers reviewed the current state of bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional and global developments. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two countries and agreed to broaden cooperation in areas of mutual interest.Earlier, delegation-level talks were also held, where both sides agreed to further promote and strengthen Pakistan-Canada relations.
Welcoming Anita Anand to Islamabad, Ishaq Dar recalled that the two had previously met in Switzerland and noted that Pakistan and Canada have maintained regular diplomatic engagement. He said Pakistan believes in proactive diplomacy and sees considerable scope for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
Dar also described the Pakistani community in Canada as a valuable bridge between the two nations and expressed confidence that Anand’s visit would give fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation.
Thanking Pakistan for the warm welcome, Anita Anand said Canada remains committed to building stronger ties with Pakistan. She stressed the importance of closer collaboration and acknowledged the significant contribution made by the more than 300,000 Canadians of Pakistani origin.She said Pakistan and Canada have the potential to make a meaningful contribution to the global economy and highlighted opportunities to enhance cooperation in agriculture, industry and several other sectors. She also expressed optimism that her visit would lead to productive discussions on advancing bilateral relations.Earlier, Anita Anand arrived in Islamabad on an official visit at the invitation of Ishaq Dar. She was received at the Foreign Office, where the deputy prime minister introduced her to senior officials. During her stay, she is also expected to meet Pakistan’s top leadership to discuss the full spectrum of Pakistan-Canada relations.
