The ongoing monsoon season has claimed 43 lives and left 177 people injured in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the latest reports issued by the provincial disaster management authorities.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that 21 people have lost their lives, while 154 others have been injured in weather-related incidents across the province since the start of the monsoon.
According to the authority, two people died after being struck by lightning, 15 were killed in building collapses, three lost their lives due to electrocution, and one person drowned. The PDMA added that no fatalities have been reported among people swept away or trapped in floodwaters so far.
The heavy rains have also caused partial damage to 38 houses, while one livestock animal was reported killed.
The PDMA Punjab Director General warned that the risk of urban flooding and flash floods remains high as the current spell of monsoon rains continues.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said 22 people were killed and 23 others injured in separate rain-related incidents, including roof and wall collapses as well as people being swept away by flash floods.
The victims included nine men, 10 children, and three women, while the injured comprised 11 men, five women, and seven children.
The authority said the rains have affected 37 houses, of which eight were destroyed and 29 sustained partial damage.
The affected districts include Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Lower Chitral, Lower and Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Tank, Torghar, Kurram, and North and South Waziristan.
