US House votes down Al Green’s impeachment effort against Trump

US House of Representatives voted Tuesday to block a Democratic-led effort to impeach President Donald Trump over his administration’s sweeping deportation policies.

The lower chamber adopted the motion to table H. Res. 1486 – Impeaching Donald John Trump, President of the US, for high crimes and misdemeanors by a vote of 232-147, with 47 voting “present”, including the top Democratic leaders: Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar

Eighteen Democrats joined nearly all Republicans in voting to table the resolution, which was sponsored by Rep. Al Green.House Democratic leaders said Monday they will vote “present” on the motion, arguing that a formal impeachment effort should follow a more extensive congressional investigation.

H.Res. 1486 contains articles alleging that Trump abused presidential power through his administration of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.

The resolution specifically references the deaths of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero, and alleges violations of constitutional rights and court orders.
