Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to utilise all available resources to provide relief and assistance to people affected by floods following heavy monsoon rains.
The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, who briefed him on the prevailing weather conditions and the flood situation resulting from the ongoing monsoon spell.
PM Shehbaz directed the NDMA to maintain close coordination with provincial governments and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to ensure timely relief and assistance to affected communities.
He also appreciated the use of artificial intelligence and modern technology at the National Emergencies Operations Centre to monitor emergencies and improve response efforts.
During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on ongoing relief operations in flood-affected areas and measures being taken for the rehabilitation of affected people.
He said relief activities would continue in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir with the support of the federal government.
