Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday signed multiple bilateral accords to strengthen cooperation in trade, security, education, environment, health and technology.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov witnessed the signing ceremony, where representatives from both countries exchanged the pre-signed documents.
The two leaders also signed a joint statement outlining the key discussions and objectives of Prime Minister Shehbaz’s three-day visit to Bishkek for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting.
The two sides signed a Programme of Cooperation between their foreign ministries for 2026–27, along with an MoU between the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad and Kyrgyzstan’s National Institute for Strategic Initiatives to strengthen research collaboration.
Agreements were also finalized on transit trade, science and technology cooperation and extradition, while the two governments formulated a draft agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
An MoU between the interior ministries seeks to enhance cooperation against illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursor chemicals.
The two countries also signed MoUs covering medical education, education, environment and climate change, academic research and virtual assets and blockchain technologies.
Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan further agreed to establish a sister-city relationship between Lahore and Osh.
Kyrgyz Post and Pakistan Post signed an agreement to enhance cooperation in postal services and e-commerce, while the Kyrgyz Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry signed an agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral business ties.
