Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has urged the Punjab government to refrain from harassing and arresting party workers, saying the PTI’s street movement is aimed at safeguarding democracy and the country.
In a statement, Barrister Gohar said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi would lead the movement peacefully and in accordance with the Constitution and law.
He urged the Punjab government, particularly Rana Sanaullah, not to create hurdles in the chief minister’s way and called for measures to ease political tensions instead of taking action against PTI workers.
The PTI chairman also demanded that the party leadership and family members be allowed to meet PTI founder Imran Khan.
“There should be no firing. The time for bullets should end,” he said, adding that PTI workers were heading to Islamabad to seek justice and intended to reach the capital peacefully.
Barrister Gohar said differences of opinion were an integral part of democracy and called on the government to pursue reconciliation rather than resort to stringent measures against political opponents.
