ISLAMABAD – Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its longstanding and friendly relations with the Maldives and expressed the desire to further expand parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The NA Speaker expressed these views during a meeting with Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who was leading a parliamentary delegation, at the Parliament House. He warmly received the Maldivian Speaker upon his arrival at the Parliament House.
The visiting Maldivian delegation called on Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and held discussions on bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Maldives, with particular emphasis on further promoting parliamentary linkages and cooperation between the two countries. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening parliamentary contacts and institutional cooperation between the two legislatures.
The NA Speaker said that the visit of the Maldivian parliamentary delegation would prove to be an important step towards strengthening institutional linkages between the legislatures of Pakistan and the Maldives.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted the role of the Pak-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group in promoting parliamentary contacts and cooperation between the two countries. He also noted that various parliamentary forums, including the Young Parliamentary Forums, SDGs Secretariat, Women’s Parliamentary Caucus and Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, are playing an active role in the National Assembly.
The Maldivian parliamentary delegation is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla appreciated the goodwill sentiments expressed by the National Assembly Speaker towards the Maldives and thanked him for his support during the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference held in Cape Town.Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that the Maldives attaches great importance to its friendly relations with Pakistan. He also thanked National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the warm welcome extended to him and the members of the parliamentary delegation upon their arrival in Pakistan.
