SUPARCO to host five-day UN-Pakistan conference on space technology

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) will host a five-day international conference on space technology, climate action and disaster risk assessment in Islamabad from October 27 to 31.

The United Nations–Pakistan International Conference on Leveraging Space Technology for Early Warning for All (EW4All), Climate Action and Disaster Risk Assessment will bring together an estimated 200 to 250 national and international participants, including experts, policymakers, researchers and representatives of relevant organisations.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal will attend the opening ceremony as the chief guest.

The conference is co-sponsored by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) through its UN-SPIDER programme, the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) and the International Space Network (ISNET).

Participants will explore how satellite observations, Earth observation data and geospatial technologies can strengthen early warning systems and improve preparedness for climate-related disasters, including floods, droughts and heatwaves.

The conference also aims to strengthen Pakistan’s capacity for climate resilience, disaster risk reduction and timely decision-making through the practical use of space-based information. The event will conclude on October 31 with a closing ceremony and a technical visit to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to highlight the application of satellite data and geospatial technologies in disaster management.
