US Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that no agreement was reached with Iran following more than 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, citing remaining differences between the two sides.
Vance, along with special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner, met Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi for about two hours before a break, according to a source familiar with Pakistan’s mediation efforts.
An Iranian state television reporter had earlier said the talks would continue on Sunday, but Vance did not indicate whether discussions would resume.
In a post on X, Iran’s government said the talks had concluded and that technical experts from both sides would exchange documents. “Negotiations will continue despite some remaining differences,” the post said, without specifying a timeline for the next round.
Earlier indications had suggested that discussions would continue, with negotiations entering a second day and moving into a technical phase involving the exchange of written proposals.
